IHOP giving away pancakes to raise money for charity

Mercedians will be able to enjoy free pancakes from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.

The IHOP Restaurant on Olive Avenue will be offering guests a free short stack of buttermilk pancakes on National Pancake Day, according to a news release from Children's Hospital Central California.

People will be encouraged to offer a donation, which will go to the hospital, the release said.

Last year, the restaurant collected the seventh-most donations in the Central Valley supporting the hospital, according to the release. That same year, IHOP restaurants in the valley raised more than $20,000 for Children's Hospital.

Nationally, more than 4 million pancakes were given away last year, according to the release. IHOP hopes to raise more than $3 million nationally for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals and other causes, the release says.

The money from the donations that go to Children's Hospital will be used to help achieve the hospital's mission to deliver high-quality, comprehensive health care services for children, the release said.
