A motorcyclist was hospitalized with major injuries Thursday after colliding with a motor home near Snelling, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The incident was reported just before 4:30 p.m. near Snelling Road and Highway 59.

According to preliminary reports, the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Snelling Road. As the road curved, the motorcyclist drifted into the oncoming opposite lane, according to officer Jason Schoonhoven.

He said the motorcyclist lost control of his vehicle and collided with the motor home, which had been traveling northbound on Snelling Road.

Schoonhoven said the driver of the motor home attempted to avoid the collision but was unable to do so. The driver of the motor home and his passenger weren't hurt.

The motorcyclist was flown to a Modesto hospital.

The northbound lane of Snelling Road was closed after the crash, backing up traffic until the wreckage could be cleared, Schoonhoven said.

The crash remains under investigation.
