Two men and and a teenager were arrested in connection with a residential burglary in Merced, police reported Thursday.

Taken into custody were Austin Dickerson, 22, Marcus Johnson, 18, and a 17-year-old female.

Police responded to a report of a possible burglary in the 300 block of East 20 St. at 6:49 p.m. Wednesday. When officers arrived they detained the trio because they were seen walking down a driveway carrying backpacks.

Police said a search of the backpacks revealed they contained items taken from the residence and identified by the homeowner.

Officers said the suspects broke out a window at the back of the house, climbed inside, ransacked the interior and were leaving the scene when officers arrived.

The owner wasn't at home when the burglary occurred.
