Nearly half of the adult population in Merced County has difficulty reading, according to a news release.

The Merced County Library's Read And Succeed-Merced English-based adult literacy program will host a volunteer tutor orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, followed by a tutor training session from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday.

The orientation is prerequisite for the training. RSVP is required. Both sessions are free at the main library, 2100 O St. For more information, call (209) 385-7391.

Reporter Thaddeus Miller can be reached at (209) 385-2453 or tmiller@mercedsunstar.com.
