A 2-year-old girl died Thursday following a vehicle crash on Highway 140, the Merced Police Department reported.
Police said Karen Ramirez, 19, of Merced, was waiting to turn left onto Tower Road and turned directly in front of an on-coming 2008 Ford F-250 pickup, driven by Tracy Robbins, 46, of Mariposa.
The child, whose name was not released, was a passenger in Ramirez’s vehicle, police said.
The girl was taken to an area hospital where she later died.
“There was a child restraint in the back of Ramirez’s vehicle,” police said in a statement, “and investigators are looking into whether the child restraint was in use.”
Both drivers were also taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been factors, police said.
The collision remains under investigation.
It was the second deadly traffic collision this week in Merced.
A 55-year-old pedestrian was stuck and killed Monday while crossing the 3500 block of G Street.
