McSwain Municipal Advisory Council to meet

The McSwain Municipal Advisory Council will meet at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at McSwain Elementary School, 926 Scott Road. All McSwain residents are welcome to attend. Community input is sought on a request to divide 27.88 acres into 24 1-acre residential lots and a drainage basin. The property is at the southwest corner of Fleming Road and Herrod Avenue in the Atwater Rural Residential center. It is designated agricultural residential land in the General Plan and zoned A-1.

Parkinson’s disease support

Amie Marchini, CMC/gerontologist and owner of Amie Marchini Senior Care will present information on community resources for seniors. The support group will meet will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mission Gardens, 1450 E. 27th St, Merced. RSVP at (209) 384-3300.

Wayward Ponies to have open house

The Wayward Ponies’ Home, a small equine sanctuary in Catheys Valley, will have its open house from noon to 2 p.m. Feb. 8, rain or shine. Admission, refreshments, activities for children and one raffle ticket good for a gate prize are free. There will be a $20 potluck-style raffle, in which each ticket buyer is guaranteed prizes worth $50 or more. This year’s theme is science, and young people can compete for cash prizes by finding flaws in descriptions of experiments on horses. The sanctuary needs donations of new, prize-worthy items and decent-looking pots with lids. Donations are tax-deductible. Dance Kaleidoscope performance Feb. 22

Dancers from some of the area’s best-known dance studios will perform at 2 and 7 p.m. Feb. 22 in the Merced College Theater. Dance Kaleidoscope features young dancers from Denisa’s School of Dance, Mariposa Academy of Performing Arts, Merced Academy of Dance, STEPS Dance Studio, The Dancer’s Studio, The Merced Belly Dance Company, and The South Pacific Dance Company. Tickets are $10 for general admission, $8 for Associated Students of Merced College card holders, children under 12 and seniors. Tickets can be purchased at Peraino’s, Bear Creek Galleria, Passadori’s in Atwater, Gottschalk’s Music, the Merced College Bookstore and the Merced College Theater box office one hour before the show.
