Flower and Garden Show
Le Grand Community Garden Club will take a bus trip to the San Francisco Flower and Garden Show on March 19. Cost is $40, and includes coffee, snacks, bus ride and a ticket to the show. Call Sandy Del Real at (209) 389-4576 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to reserve a seat.
Big Trees docent class
Calaveras Big Trees State Park will holding a docent orientation class from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 12 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 9 at the Jack Knight Hall, near the old Visitor Center. Attendance is mandatory for all new park volunteers; RSVP is required and must be received two weeks in advance of the desired training session. Day trip to Chukchansi
The Italian Catholic Federation is sponsoring a Day at the Casino at Chukchansi on Feb. 18. The group will leave from the 23rd and M Street parking lot at 9 a.m. The cost is $31 per person. You must have proof of age to receive $10 for gaming and $5 toward lunch at the buffet or bakery. There will be refreshments, raffle and bingo on the bus. The bus will depart from the casino at 3:30 p.m. and arrive in Merced by 5. Please RSVP by emailing Nettie at firstname.lastname@example.org or calling (209) 383-4819. Rose care workshop
A rose care workshop presented by the Merced County Master Gardeners will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Feb. 8 at Applegate Park Rose Garden, near M Street, between West 26th Street and Bear Creek. Participants should meet at the fountain. Learn how to prune, fertilize and control pests on rose plants in this hands-on workshop. Soroptimist service day
The first Saturday in March each year has been designated as Saturday of Service for Soroptimists around the world, a date that Soroptimists everywhere do a service project for their community. This year, the service project is cleaning shelves, books, tables, toys, furniture, etc., at the Merced County Library. When you arrive, walk downstairs to the lower level of the library and press the buzzer on the right side, so one of the employees will let you inside. The library does not open until 9:30 a.m. on Saturdays, so you will have to enter as directed.
