Police on Tuesday arrested a 57-year-old man on a weapons charge in connection with a shooting last week in Los Banos.

Jimmie Dale Agamao surrendered to the Los Banos Police Department about 1 p.m. Tuesday on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said in a news release.

Christopher Harris was shot at least once in the upper body on Jan. 14 at a home in the 500 block of Chablis Court following some type of argument, police said.

Agamao told investigators he was defending himself, saying Harris attacked him with “an unspecified weapon,” police said.

Police said Harris acknowledged attacking Agamao with a weapon.

Officers have not commented on the argument that sparked the violence.

Harris, a 33-year-old Pleasanton man, has not been arrested because of his gunshot injuries, police said.

“This investigation is ongoing; given the complex nature, we will be working with the (Merced County) District Attorney’s Office to determine if charges will be filed against Harris,” Detective Justin Melden said in the news release.

Following the shooting, Harris was taken to an area hospital by a friend. His injuries were not considered life-threatening, police said.

Agamao was still in custody Tuesday at the Los Banos Police Department in lieu of $50,000 bail, police said.
