Armed robbery reported at Merced Subway; suspect described as transient

No injuries were reported Sunday night during a robbery at the Subway sandwich shop in the 1200 block of West Olive Avenue, Merced police reported.

Police responded to the robbery alarm at 7:53 p.m. The clerks told police a man entered the store, pulled out a handgun, and demanded money, according to Sgt. Alan Ward.

After clerks complied with robber's demands, he fled from the store and was last seen running south into a residential area. The robber is described as a Latino male, 30 to 40 years old. The clerks told police the man was dirty, and appeared as if he might be a transient.
