An 83-year-old man in a motorized wheelchair was injured when he was struck by a car in Merced on Tuesday, according to Merced police.
A 73-year-old woman driving a Honda Accord south on G Street was passing through the intersection at Alexander Avenue about 3 p.m. when she struck the man, who was crossing the street in his wheelchair, according to Lt. Andre Matthews.
The woman pulled over after the accident.
The man was taken by helicopter to a Modesto-area hospital with moderate injuries, Matthews said. “We don’t know all the facts at this time,” he said.
Witnesses said the man was thrown from his wheelchair, which was broken into a few pieces along G Street. The man’s shoes and other pieces of his clothing were also strewn about the street.
Matthews said the man’s condition is unclear, and officers continue to investigate who was at fault in the accident.
