Lincoln Brewster was the first artist to bring Christian music to the Merced County Fair, and he will be returning to headline a concert on opening day, June 11.

The guitarist and songwriter once played lead guitar for Steve Perry, former singer with Journey. Now he’s a big influence in shaping today’s modern worship music, performing and crafting songs, while also climbing Christian radio charts, according to a Merced County Fair press release.

Brewster’s hit songs include “Today Is the Day,” “God You Reign,” “Everlasting God,” “Salvation Is Here” and “The Power of Your Name.”

The former Modesto resident walked away from a promising mainstream music career, choosing a path that takes him to venues all over the U.S. He is worship pastor at Bayside Church in Granite Bay, where he recently marked his 13th anniversary with the church, which regularly seats 10,000 at Sunday services.

The Merced County Fair is June 11-15. Each night a headline entertainment act will appear at 8:30 p.m. in the Outdoor Theatre, where all concerts are free with admission. The Outdoor Theatre Concert Series is presented by Table Mountain Casino and Budweiser. The rest of the entertainment lineup for the fair’s run will be announced soon, the release said.

Admission to the 2014 Merced County Fair will be the same as for the 2013 fair: Everybody gets in for $5. That’s half off the 2011 general admission. Kids 5 and younger will continue to get in free. Seniors 65 years and older will get free admission opening day, Mercy Medical Center Seniors Day. Kids’ Day will be Thursday, June 12, when all children 12 years and younger get in free. A new way to save this year is “Free ’Til 3” Sunday, June 15, when general admission is free from noon to 3 p.m.

The fair will also offer a five-pack general admission discount ticket package for $16, sold only in April. In May, the five-pack price will be $18; in June, $20 through June 10. Tickets will be available at the fair office, the release said.

The theme of the 2014 Merced County Fair is “Saluting Our Farmers & Ranchers.” For information, call the fair office at (209) 722-1507, fax at (209) 722-3773, email or go to
