A 19-year-old man was hospitalized Friday night after being shot in the 300 block of Q Street, Merced police reported.
Merced police responded to a shots fired call on Q Street just after 7:30 p.m. While officers were checking the area, Mercy Medical Center staff informed law enforcement the victim has turned up at the hospital, according to Capt. Bimley West.
The victim told police one of his relatives took him to the hospital. He was shot twice in the upper torso, West said.
The victim said he was walking in the 300 block of Q Street when an unidentified person shot at him. He ran to his home and was then taken to the hospital. West said the victim was later flown from Mercy to a regional hospital.
The motive remains under investigation, and it's unknown if the shooting was gang related.
