El Capitan orientation
El Capitan High School will have a parent and student orientation for incoming ninth-gradeers at 6 p.m. Feb. 19 in the main gym. This event is an opportunity for parents and students to meet school administrators, counseling staff, teachers, athletic coaches and club advisers. Students will be able to turn in course selection forms indicating their elective course requests and submit contact information to the school. Refreshments will be provided. Continuum of Care meeting
The Merced County Continuum of Care will have a special meeting with public and private stakeholders from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 24 in the Sam Pipes Room at the Merced Civic Center, 678 W. 18th St. This meeting will focus on realigning the local continuum of care system with “Opening Doors,” the first federal strategic plan to prevent and end homelessness. Deep-pit barbecue dinner
The deep-pit barbeque dinner by the Le Grand Methodist Church will be served from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., March 1 in the all-purpose room of Le Grand Elementary School, 13071 Le Grand Road in Le Grand. The meal is deep-pit barbequed beef, beans, salad, roll, butter, dessert and drink. $12.50 for adults, $6 for children 6 to 12. Children 5 and younger eat for free. There will be a silent auction as well. The proceeds go to church mission projects. Call David Hansen, (209) 756-2815 for tickets, buy them at the door or from any church member.
Performance of “Aladdin Jr”
Weaver Performing Arts’ production of “Aladdin Jr.” will be at 1 and 7 p.m. Feb. 28 and March 1 at the Merced Theatre. Tickets are $8 and can be purchased at the Merced Theatre box office, Farmdale School, Pioneer School or Weaver Middle School.
