Merced County officials are holding a recruitment day to help hire workers for a green technology company that is setting up shop in Los Banos.
Innovation Engineering Modular is preparing to hire 12 workers, with plans to have 50 employees within five years.
“They were looking at locating in Los Angeles but they decided on Merced County because the operating costs are more reasonable here,” said Eve Snelling, a business representative for the county’s Department of Workforce Investment.
IEM is looking for assemblers, packagers, machine operators and some clerical positions, Snelling said. A recruitment day will be held at the Worknet office in Los Banos on Thursday to interview people for the jobs.
The company, which manufactures energy-efficient light bulbs, was started by Felipe Herrador Sr. about a year ago. The company plans to produce 28,000 bulbs per month to sell through major chain stores.
Robert Morris, director of the county’s Department of Workforce Investment, said he hopes the company opening in Los Banos will encourage other businesses to come to Merced County.
“If others have seen they have located here, hopefully others will follow,” Morris said.
Morris said his department will help IEM with the recruitment, application and interview processes to find the best candidates for the jobs. It’s one of the many free services his department offers for businesses. “We want to find people that are trained and remain with a company,” he said.
Anyone interested in interviewing for the jobs at IEM can contact Worknet at (209) 710-6140 to set up an interview for the recruitment day.
