Merced police are looking for a man who used pruning shears to rob a cellphone store Tuesday morning.

The robbery was reported at 10:50 a.m. in the 1900 block of Yosemite Parkway, according to Lt. Andre Matthews.

No one was hurt in the robbery.

At first, the robber entered the store without the pruning shears. After browsing for a few minutes, he left and later returned with the pruning shears. The robber then demanded money from a female store clerk, police said.

When the clerk told the robber she could not give him money, he walked to a cellphone display and used the shears to cut a security cable that connected a cellphone to a display. The robber left the scene with the cellphone.

The robber is described as being around 5 feet 4 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds with several tattoos on his arms and neck.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call (209) 385-6912 or the department’s automated tip line at (209) 385-4725. Tips are kept confidential and anyone providing information can remain anonymous.
