Assemblyman Adam Gray, D-Merced, submitted the paperwork Tuesday to officially put his name on the ballot for re-election, according to a news release.

“I’m honored by the support I have received from our area,” Gray said in the release. “I will work hard to keep that support.”

The incumbent filed more than 2,500 signatures, which covers the cost of a filing fee. Gray is the only candidate who has declared his intention to run, according to the Merced County Registrar of Voters website. The last day to file is Friday.

The 21st Assembly District is predominantly Democratic and includes Merced County and the southwest section of Stanislaus County, including parts of Modesto.

Gray was elected in November 2012. The last day to register to vote is May 19. Election day is June 3.
