The deadline for independent junior exhibitors planning to enter animals in this year’s Merced County Fair is getting close.

Exhibitors wishing to enter goats, sheep or swine should have required information turned in to the fair office by April 14. The deadline for independent junior exhibitors to enter market beef has passed.

Independent junior exhibitors are those who are not 4-H or FFA members. Exhibitors must present fair management with a copy of a birth certificate or driver’s license as proof of age.

California fair rules require that independent junior exhibitors who enter market sheep, goats or swine must be at least 9 years old or in the fourth grade by Jan. 1, 2014. They are eligible to compete through Dec. 31 of the year in which they turn 19.

Those who are entering market animals must also provide a photo of their animal, appropriate proof of ownership, a permanent tag, tattoo or hog ear notch information.

The Merced County Fair is June 11-15.

All required information must be submitted to the fair office, 900 Martin Luther King Jr. Way. For more information, call (209) 722-1507 or fax information to (209) 722-3773 or visit www.MercedCountyFair.com.
