A Merced County teenager was recovering Tuesday, two days after he was shot in Delhi, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The 17-year-old victim was treated at a Modesto hospital, Deputy Delray Shelton said, and his injuries were not life-threatening.
No arrests have been made.
The teen was shot at least once when unknown men opened fire from a vehicle about 11:30 p.m. Sunday in the area of Countryside and August avenues in Delhi, Shelton said.
Multiple shots were fired, he said. To protect the investigation, Shelton declined to comment on the type of weapon involved in the assault.
The motive for the shooting remained unknown Tuesday, although investigators do not suspect any gang connections to the case.
Deputies said the suspect or suspects left the area in a black and orange SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Tahoe.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help identifying suspects. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Merced County Sheriff’s Department at (209) 385-7472. Callers can remain anonymous.
