A man was shot and killed Saturday night in Merced, a police official confirmed.
No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, police told the Merced Sun-Star.
Few details were available as the investigation was just getting underway.
Merced police responded at 8:51 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of West 12th Street, Capt. Tom Trindad said in a news release.
Officers found a victim, described as a Hispanic man between 45 and 50 years old, bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to an area hospital were he later died, police said.
Saturday’s death marks the sixth homicide of 2014 in Merced County. All six have involved firearms. Five of the cases, including Saturday’s incident, remain unsolved.
