A man was shot and killed Saturday night in Merced, a police official confirmed.
No arrests have been made and the motive for the shooting was not immediately clear, police told the Merced Sun-Star.
Few details were available as the investigation was just getting underway.
Merced police responded at 8:51 p.m. to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of W. 12th Street, Capt. Tom Trindad said in a news release. Officers found a Latino man between 45 and 50 years old bleeding from multiple gunshot wounds.
He was taken to an area hospital were he later died, police said.
Saturday’s death marks the sixth homicide of 2014 in Merced County and the third in the city of Merced. The city had four homicides in 2013.
All six 2014 county homicides involved firearms.
Five of the cases, including Saturday’s incident, remain unsolved.
