A 14-year-old boy is expected to survive after being struck by a van Tuesday evening on West Olive Avenue near Meadows Avenue in Merced.
The crash was reported at 6:45 p.m. after the boy and a friend had been riding bicycles southbound on Meadows Avenue, attempting to cross West Olive Avenue, according to Merced Police Sgt. Robert Solis.
Although one of the boys was able to make it across Olive Avenue, the other was struck by a white Ford Windstar van. The driver of the van had tried to brake, but was unable to stop in time. The driver pulled over immediately, Solis said.
The boy had abrasions but did not appear to have serious injuries or broken bones, Solis said, and was taken to a Modesto hospital as a precaution.
