A 24-year-old man is expected to survive after being stabbed Thursday in Atwater, police said.
The motive remains under investigation, although Atwater police spokesman Lt. Samuel Joseph said the attack may be gang-related.
Around 7:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Fifth Street, and found the victim with about three stab wounds from an unknown assailant.
Police were unable to locate the attacker, who may have left the scene in a white vehicle, heading north on Fifth Street.
The victim was flown to a Modesto hospital for treatment.
Police are asking anyone with information about the assault to call detectives at (209) 357-6396. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous.
