A group of school public relations officers will be conducting a workshop on communications during times of crisis at a regional conference to be held here midmonth.

The Merced County Office of Education and the California School Public Relations Association are partnering to hold the first CalSPRA Central Valley Regional Event in Merced.

A hands-on crisis communications workshop will be held April 16 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Merced County Office of Education, 632 W. 13th St.

The workshop will include mock on-camera interviews and real-life crisis scenarios. Sessions will be led by school public relations expert Tom DeLapp; Kelly Avants, chief communication officer for the Clovis Unified School District; and Daniel Thigpen, communication specialist for the San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento.

The workshop will be held in the J2 conference room at the back of the MCOE complex, and lunch will be provided.

The event is $20 for CalSPRA members and $25 for nonmembers, and participants are encouraged to register early. To register, go to http://conta.cc/1ecb5Gj.
