Merced police seeking alleged child molester

Merced police are renewing their call for assistance in locating a 33-year-old man accused of molesting several children.

Merced police are renewing their call for assistance in locating a 33-year-old man accused of molesting several children.

Detectives are seeking 33-year-old Lonnie Lee Poslof Jr., who is charged with five felony counts of child molestation, according to records in Merced Superior Court.

Police have been searching for Poslof on a $1.6 million arrest warrant since last year. Some of the victims’ family members recently pitched in to increase the reward amount in the case to $2,000. The money will be given to anyone who provides information leading to Poslof’s arrest.

Detective Raquel Rios said Poslof is known to befriend and become involved with women who have young children. Rios said the suspect’s goal in pursuing such relationships is to abuse the children. As a result, Rios said, it’s extremely important for anyone with information about Poslof’s whereabouts to come forward. “He could likely be associating with women that have children, and (the kids) are now in harm’s way,” Rios said.

Rios said the suspect could be in the Merced or Fresno area, or possibly in the Amador County area.

Five children have reported being abused by Poslof. Four of those children were age 5 and under, while another child was 12 years old when the alleged abuse happened. Rios said the alleged offenses happened between 2007 and 2013.

Court records show Poslof pleaded no contest in 2005 to misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon.

Poslof is described as a white man, 6 feet tall, weighing about 190 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Raquel Rios at (209) 388-7766 or the Merced Police Department Tipster line at (209) 385-4725.
