Suspected gang members opened fire on a rival late Monday in a residential neighborhood and fled the area in a white vehicle, the Merced Police Department reported.
Nobody was hurt when four to five shots were fired from a moving car near Shirley Street and Louise Avenue, Capt. Bimley West said Tuesday.
Police said the target was a 22-year-old known gang member. No bullets or shell casings were recovered.
Witnesses said the shots were fired from the car’s left side, though it was unclear if the driver was shooting or whether the shots came from the back seat, police said.
Investigators are asking for the public’s help, particularly regarding the vehicle in question, which police described as a white compact car, possibly a Honda. Tipsters should call (209) 385-4725 or send a text to TIP411 (847411), including “ComVIP” in the message.
