One person was arrested Wednesday on suspicion of illegal weapon and drug possession after Merced police responded to a residence in the 100 block of East 12th Street.

Police learned illegal narcotics were allegedly being sold at the location. Officers responded and found a 19-year-old female and Stephen Montgomery, 22, who live in an apartment, according to a police department press release.

The officers detected the odor of marijuana coming from the apartment and the woman admitted to having a marijuana plant in the apartment. She consented to let officers inside to investigate further. Once inside, officers located a loaded handgun magazine lying on the floor in a room and three other people inside the apartment, police said.

A continued search revealed marijuana plants, a large quantity of processed marijuana, cocaine, a digital scale and an Uzi 9 mm pistol that was reported stolen. After the contraband was seized, Montgomery admitted the items belonged to him and said the others at the residence had no knowledge, according to police.

Montgomery was booked at the Merced County jail on charges including felony possession for sales of narcotics, being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of stolen property.
