Business Expo Workshop

Jeremy Hofer, Business Development Manager of Fresno Community Development Financial Institution and the Merced Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, will hold a Business Expo Workshop from 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday at 630 W. 19 St. This is a free event. Call (209) 384-9537.

Teen courses in Yosemite

UC Berkeley’s Adventure Risk Challenge Program is offering a six week class for teenagers to explore Yosemite National Park. This program was founded in 2004 in Tahoe, and ARC has served Merced County students since 2009. For information about how to attend the program, call (559) 676-5096 or email Applications are due Friday and all Merced County ninth- through twelfth-graders are eligible to apply for the summer course. ARC is a scholarship-based program and partial to full financial support is provided to all accepted students.

Valley Crisis benefit

The Kappa Sigma Fraternity of UC Merced will hold a community event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Friday at UC Merced. The event will be a fundraiser to benefit the Valley Crisis Center and consists of paint twister and giant Jenga games, and will offer music and other activities. Call (209) 675-0638 or email

Cancer Society dinner

The Yosemite Gateway Chapter Order of the Eastern Star invites the community to a rigatoni dinner from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Merced Masonic Center, 1810 M St. Tickets are $10 and proceeds will go to support the American Cancer Society Relay for Life Program. Call (209) 358-7229.

Western dance classes

Merced College Community Services is offering two new classes: Western Line Dance at 7:30 p.m. and Western Partner Dance at 6:30 p.m. They will be held Fridays, April 25 through May 30 at Merced College in Gym 4. The cost is $35. Call (209) 384-6224.

Founder’s Day event

The Merced Area Council of Beta Sigma Phi will celebrate Founder’s Day at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with a lunch at the Branding Iron, 640 W. 16th St. on the 83rd anniversary of the founding group. All inactive members are invited. Call (209) 723-3573.
