The driver of a Mazda crashed into a pole Friday afternoon at a Valero gas station on East Childs Avenue.
No major injuries were reported, according to Merced police.
Police said the crash, reported before 4 p.m., is under investigation.
Officers said preliminary details indicate the driver of the Mazda, a woman in her late teens to early 20s, left the Ramada Inn parking lot on East Childs Avenue and crossed the street to enter the Valero station.
The Mazda clipped the driver's side of a white Impala that was preparing the leave the gas station. The Mazda driver lost control and crashed into a pole. She told police her passenger, a man, had tried to grab the wheel.
The Impala driver was not hurt. The Mazda driver appeared to have minor bumps and scrapes, and her passenger’s only visible injury was a cut lip.
Police said the Mazda did not hit any of the gas pumps.
