Driving classes

Merced College’s Office of Continuing Education is offering Mature Driver Improvement classes for those 50 years and older. Classes will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8 at the Tri-College Center, Bldg. 5. Classes will also be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 9 at Merced College’s Los Banos Campus, Room B134. Garden Club event

The Le Grand Community Garden Club will present their annual Spring event, “More Beauty, Less Bother” 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Chowchilla SFA Portuguese Hall, 800 S. Third St. in Chowchilla. First Tee Merced

The second season of the First Tee Merced will begin 5:45 p.m. Wednesday at the Merced Golf and Country Club. This is an organization that teaches essential life skills through the game of golf to children between the ages of 5 and 17. The cost for the nine-week session is $90 per child and $50 for a second child in the family. Scholarships are available. Call (209) 604-4120 for more information.

Ribs for Relay dinner

Supervisor John Pedrozo and Merced City Council member Josh Pedrozo will host their second annual Ribs for Relay BBQ Dinner from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Merced Fruit Barn, 4526 E. Hwy. 140. Cost is $25 per person and includes pork or beef ribs, beans, salad and a roll. All proceeds will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.

COVE Dog Walk

The Center of Vision Enhancement will host a dog walk and run starting at 9 a.m. Saturday at Applegate Park. There will be a 2-5 mile walk or run with or without a dog. Registration fees range from $8 to $20. Call (209) 722-8118 or email for more information.

Healthy House fundraiser

The nonprofit Healthy House will host Cheryl Lockett in a program of cultural music and dance at its fundraiser 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Merced Elks Lodge on M St. Tickets are $30 per person or sponsor a table for $350.
