Catapult competition

Merced College professor Lana Jordan’s Physics 4A and 4B students participate in the siege weapon competition each year, building full-scale trebuchets, a type of catapult, and then using them to launch items. Held 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the practice soccer fields, next to the Tri-College Center. Call (209) 381-6470 for details.

Breakfast and yard sale

The Lions Club will hold a fundraising yard sale from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Livingston City Hall parking lot. Also, breakfast from 7 to 11 a.m. at the Livingston Fire Department.

Club to have Blues Bash

Club Mercedes will have a Blues Bash at 6 p.m. May 9 at the club, 569 W. Ninth St. Tickets are $10 per person. Must be over 21 to attend. A beverage and snack bar will be open. Spring plant sale

The Atwater High School agriculture department will have its annual FFA spring plant sale from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 9-10. The sale will be at the school’s ag department. Go to AtwaterFFA.org for more information.

Angel Babies walk-run needs donations

Hinds Hospice is seeking donations for the kids station at its annual Angel Babies-Bebitis Angelitos Walk-Run on May 17 at Rahilly Park. Registration will be at 10 a.m. and the walk-run starts at 11. Adopt a pet from SPCA

The Merced SPCA will have a special adoption from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 17 at the SPCA shelter, 1021 E. Childs Ave. Pets over 3 years can be adopted free, pending approval and home visits. Sporting clays tournament

HILMAR Camp Pacifica’s annual Lions Club sporting clays tournament will be held May 17 at the Rooster Ranch, 26166 Kelley Road. Registration at 8 a.m. There will be the 100 target challenge, Team Flurry and Long Shot contest. Cost is $90. Call (209) 667-0483 for details. Proceeds will benefit the Camp Pacifica-Lions Club hearing impaired free summer camp for kids ages 7 to 15.
