Peaceful spot for reading

A young woman finds the perfect spot to do some reading on the UC Merced campus, leaning against the “Beginnings” sculpture last week. “Beginnings” consists of two curved, vertical arms that rise about 40 feet into the air from its platform, representing growth as well as the university’s embrace of students and community. The stainless steel sculpture stands at the open end of the quad, facing the city of Merced. With the approach of warmer weather this week, people on campus and off are likely to be looking for other good places to relax outside with a good book – or a required textbook. Temperatures are to expected to hit the mid-80s today and push into the 90s by the end of the week.
