A 50-year-old old man was killed in a two-vehicle crash Friday morning at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Atwater-Jordan Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The crash was reported at 9:45 a.m. The victim’s name wasn’t released, pending notification of his family or next of kin, according to CHP Officer Alberto Onsurez.
The victim was driving a 2010 Honda Accord at an unknown speed heading east on Atwater-Jordan Road, approaching Lincoln Boulevard.Miguel Morales, 53, of Chowchilla, was driving a big rig southbound on Lincoln, approaching Atwater-Jordan Road.
Onsurez said the intersection has stop signs posted on Atwater-Jordan Road, but none on Lincoln. For unknown reasons, the driver of the Honda failed to halt at the stop sign on Atwater-Jordan Road and traveled into the big rig’s path.
The big rig struck the left side of the Honda. Both vehicles traveled to the southeast corner of the intersection, striking a power pole near an orchard.
Morales suffered no injuries in the crash.
Power lines fell as a result of the crash. Emergency personnel were unable to render aid to the Honda’s driver until Pacific Gas and Electric workers could address the fallen power lines. After they were able to ensure the area was safe, paramedics accessed the crash site and pronounced the Honda’s driver dead at 10:36 a.m., according to Onsurez.
DUI was not a factor in the crash, according to CHP.
The roads near the crash site were closed from 10:01 a.m. until noon.
