Garden Club’s Spring Tour

House candidates debate
The Merced-Atwater Tea Party will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday at the Veterans of Foreign Wars hall at Fifth and Broadway. The program will be a debate forum among candidates for the 16th Congressional District, Joanna Botelho, Steve Crass, Mel Levey and Johnny Tacherra.
Lions Club Clays Tournament
HILMAR Camp Pacifica’s Annual Lions Club Sporting Clays Tournament will be held Saturday at the Rooster Ranch, 26166 Kelley Road. Registration is at 8 a.m. There will be the 100 target challenge, Team Flurry and Long Shot contests. Cost is $90. Call (209) 667-0483 for more information. Special adoption event
The Merced SPCA will host a special adoption from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the SPCA shelter, 1021 E. Childs Ave. Pets over the age of 3 years can be adopted at no charge, pending approval and home visits. Requirements are a valid I.D., proof of address and verification that landlords accept pets. K-9 police handler at Uniformed Services
The National Association for Uniformed Services, H. Wayne Hein Chapter 18, will meet at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the new location at the Castle Air Museum banquet room. The speaker will be a K-9 handler from the Atwater Police Department. Call (209) 358-2045 for more information.
Genealogy pros to lecture
“Calling in the Pros,” with Janice Sellers, Sheri Fenley and Corey Oiesen of the Northern California Chapter of the Association of Professional Genealogists at noon on Saturday in the Gracey Room, Merced County Library, 2100 O St. Open to everyone.
