Bag o’ books for $3

Friends of the Merced County Library will host a book sale through June 30 at 2100 O St. Fill a bag with hardback fiction or nonfiction books for $3.

Veterans Craft Fair

The American Legion Post No. 83 in Merced will host its annual Spring-Summer Veterans Craft Fair from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in downtown Merced. Booths are available for $45 each and proceeds will benefit local veterans needs and the preservation of the historic Veterans Memorial Building. For more information, email

Installation dinner

The Winton Chamber of Commerce will host its yearly installation dinner for officers and directors at 5 p.m. June 16 at Brooks Ranch 975 E. Bellevue Road in Atwater. This is a no-host dinner. For more information, call (209) 600-5222 for more information.

Volunteer orientation

The Merced Library’s Read and Succeed adult literacy program for volunteer tutors will hold an orientation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on June 24 at the library, 2100 O St. A training session will follow from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. June 28, also at the library. Drivers for veterans

Disabled American Veterans is looking for men and women to be volunteer drivers. Volunteering to drive a vet ensures that even those living far from Veterans Affairs hospitals can make their appointments and get treatment. VFW assistance

The Atwater Veterans of Foreign Wars post accepts soiled or tattered flags for proper disposal at 1390 Broadway. VFW also provides free wheelchairs and walkers to veterans in need and holds a hamburger night Wednesdays from 5 to 7 p.m. For more information, call (209) 358-7224.

Used glasses, hearing aids

The Merced Breakfast Lions Club maintains a series of drop-off locations for used prescription eyeglasses or hearing aids. Drop off at the offices of Drs.
