Two men remained hospitalized with major injuries Thursday, a day after a two-car crash in Ballico, the California Highway Patrol reported.
CHP officers responded around 2:30 p.m. Wednesday to Ballico Avenue and El Capitan Way to the crash.
Fernando Figuero-Aayala, 21, of Winton was heading west on El Capitan Way in a 2008 Nissan Versa, approaching the Ballico Avenue intersection. At the same time, a 62-year-old Merced man, whose name was not released, was driving a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup south on Ballico, approaching the same intersection, the CHP said.
The truck continued through the intersection without stopping, Officer Moises Onsurez said. Aayala’s car struck the side of the truck, sending sent the pickup into a nearby tree, the CHP said.
Both men suffered major injuries and were flown to hospitals. The Merced man was unconscious at the scene, the CHP said. One person suffered pelvic injuries and cracked vertebrae, and the other had lower-abdomen injuries, according to the CHP website.
