No power outages were reported as a result of a U-Haul truck striking a power pole Monday afternoon at East 21st Street and Cherry Avenue in Merced, according to PG&E officials.

The incident was reported about 3 p.m. when the truck hit the pole. The driver, identified as Stamatios Konstantinidis, 31, continued traveling west on 21st Street. The driver was pulled over by officers on East Santa Fe Avenue, according to Sgt. Bobby Chapman.

Chapman said the power pole was damaged but still standing. He added that police believe Konstantinidis struck a parked vehicle in the 2400 block of Gerard Avenue not long before hitting the pole.

The intersections of 22nd Street and Cherry Avenue, Union Avenue and East 21st Street, and East 21st Street and Highland Drive were closed to traffic for several hours while PG&E officials assessed the damage to the pole.

Konstantinidis was cited and released on suspicion of misdemeanor hit-and-run and driving on a suspended license, Chapman said. Police do not believe the driver was under the influence of any substances.
