A single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 99 near Franklin Road backed up traffic to the Atwater area, the California Highway Patrol confirmed.
The exact number of people injured was not immediately clear. At least one was taken to an area hospital in an ambulance and another was transported in a helicopter with unspecified “major” injuries, according to the CHP website.
Names and ages of the people involved in the collision were not available Thursday, Officer Moises Onsurez said.
The incident was reported just after 4 p.m. on the southbound side of Highway 99 near West 16th Street, Officer Brian Clark said.
A white sport utility vehicle’s tire blew out on the roadway, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times before landing on its roof, according to the CHP website.
Officers said two others suffered minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
