Driver in fatal crash identified as Livingston man

A man who died in a single-vehicle wreck early Friday in Atwater was identified as Adam Bracamontes, 22, the Merced County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

A man who died in a crash last week in Atwater was identified Tuesday as a 22-year-old Livingston man.

Adam Bracamontes died in a single-vehicle wreck early Friday in Atwater that was witnessed by a Riggs Ambulance driver, the Merced County Coroner’s Office confirmed.

The driver called police about 2:45 a.m. to report a green Honda Accord was weaving “all over the road” on Atwater Boulevard, the Atwater Police Department said.

A short time later, the ambulance driver reported the Honda had crashed into a pillar near the Highway 99 entrance on Atwater Boulevard. The vehicle sustained major damage, trapping the driver inside, police said.

Firefighters used a hydraulic cutter to to remove the driver from the mangled car. Bracamontes was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The ambulance driver reported the Honda’s driver was “possibly” intoxicated, prompting a faster police response, Sgt. Dick Wisdom said.

Toxicology test results are pending.
