The Merced County Office of Education’s Head Start and Early Head Start programs are currently recruiting and enrolling families for the 2014-2015 school year.
The goal is to ensure that all families in the county who qualify for services have access to the Head Start programs.
Established in 1965, Head Start is a comprehensive preschool and family development program that is available to 3- and 4-year-old children nationwide. Early Head Start serves infants, toddlers and a limited number of pregnant women.
Head Start families benefit from access to a variety of community resources, health and nutrition education programs, parent education programs and other social services to support the entire family.
Eligible families are those whose total annual income does not exceed federal poverty guidelines. The program can serve children with special needs even if families do not qualify under the federal poverty guidelines.
