Merced police have arrested two suspects in the death of a 23-year-old man in a road-rage incident earlier this year.

Miguel Gonzalez, 18, and his 15-year-old brother, both of Modesto, were arrested Wednesday night. The duo are accused of shooting to death 23-year-old Joshua Goodman near Coffee and East Childs avenues April 10. The juvenile’s name has not been released by police.

Both suspects are gang members, police say. Although many details about the case haven’t been released, Capt. Tom Trindad said police believe the brothers killed Goodman because they felt “disrespected” during the road-rage incident.

Merced police, with assistance from the Merced Multi-Agency Gang Task Force, tracked the suspects to the Modesto area. Miguel Gonzales was arrested outside of a home without incident, and the younger brother was arrested about 20 minutes later in the same neighborhood.

The incident was reported to Merced police at 3:23 p.m. April 10.

Merced police detectives believe Goodman was in his car with two other occupants and traveling in the area of Highway 99 and Childs Avenue. Goodman and the others noticed they were being followed by a vehicle with more than one person inside.

Goodman tried to drive away from the other vehicle, but it continued to follow his car.

Police said he drove to the area of Coffee and East Childs avenues, where he pulled over to confront the people in the other car. One of the occupants of the other car pulled out a gun and shot Goodman, hitting him in the upper body, according to police.

Goodman was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.

Miguel Gonzalez was booked at the Merced County jail on suspicion of homicide, and his younger brother was booked at juvenile hall.
