Police are seeking help locating two men who earlier this week beat and robbed a man who had stopped his car to check his tire pressure, the Merced Police Department reported.
The victim, a 41-year-old man whose name was withheld for safety reasons, could not provide police any descriptions of the two men he claimed assaulted him about 9:45 p.m. Monday in the area of the 400 block of South Canal Street, Lt. Andre Mathews said.
“He said they said nothing and just assaulted him and took his wallet and his watch,” Mathews said.
The victim told police he had gone to a friend’s house to borrow an air compressor to use on his slow-leaking car tire, but his friend was not home, so he drove away. He said he pulled over a short time later on Canal Street to recheck the tire and was attacked, suffering numerous cuts and bruises.
“We’re hoping someone in the area may have witnessed the incident and will contact us,” Mathews said.
