Free day at Kiddieland

Kiddieland is free today, sponsored by Merced Elks Lodge 1240. Concession opens at noon; rides will be free from 1 to 5 p.m. Kiddieland is in Applegate Park near Q and 25th streets.

Mission Luncheon

Native Daughters of the Golden West, Veritas Parlor No. 75, will have a Mission Restoration Luncheon from 11 a.m to 1:30 p.m. today at the United Methodist Church of Merced, 899 Yosemite Park Way. $15 per person. The Valley Farmers Market is open every Sunday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 2877 Atwater Blvd. in Atwater, and the Merced Flea and Farmers Market runs every Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. behind the fairgrounds, 900 G St. EBT is accepted at both. The Merced Certified Farmers Market is open Saturdays from 8 a.m. to noon at 19th and N streets in Merced. The Buhach Farmers Market is open every Monday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 4814 Clover Ave. The Le Grand Certified Farmers Market is held Tuesdays from 6 to 8 p.m. on Washington Street and Le Grand Road, next to Pizza Factory.

Lymphoma fundraiser

A fundraiser to help Marina Castillo-Franco in her battle against cancer will be held from 1 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lake Yosemite Fish and Game Club. The $10 donation includes a Mexican dinner of carnitas, rice, beans, salad, cookie and a drink. Cal “Skyhawk“ Haynes will perform. There will be a DJ, bake sale, cakewalks, face painting and raffles. Dog obedience class

A beginning dog obedience class will start July 29 at 6 p.m. at Applegate Park in Merced. The class teaches basic commands such as sit, down, stay as well as walking on a loose leash. It is also a canine good citizen class, which tests a dog’s manners. The instructors have more than 20 years’ experience training dogs. The six-week class costs $70, or $50 for dogs from a shelter or rescue organization. Call 631-0484 or email to
