Two men were taken into custody Sunday after leading deputies in a vehicle pursuit, according to the Merced County Sheriff’s Department.

The incident was reported around 12:30 a.m. Sunday in the 7100 block of Winton Way, according to Deputy Delray Shelton, sheriff’s spokesman.

Deputies responded after an apartment complex manager made a noise complaint. Deputies said Porfirio Gutierrez, 36, had been driving recklessly in the complex area, with two occupants in the car.

Shelton said deputies tried to contact Gutierrez, but he sped away, resulting on a vehicle pursuit in an alleyway west of Winton Way, between Gerard and Walnut avenues.

The car stopped, and one of the three occupants fled on foot. Gutierrez was arrested by deputies and booked into the Merced County Jail on suspicion of DUI and evading law enforcement. Another occupant, Javony Solorzano, 18, was found in possession of a firearm. He was booked on suspicion of illegal possession of a firearm, misdemeanor purchase or sale of a firearm without identifying marks, and being a member of a criminal street gang.

Gutierrez and Solorzano were both released after posting bail. The third occupant of the car has not been captured.
