The woman found Tuesday afternoon in Bear Creek has been identified as Gina Salvadori, 48, according to the Merced County Coroner’s Office.
Salvadori’s body was found about 5 p.m. Tuesday by a passer-by. Police said Salvadori likely entered the water within 24 hours before discovery. Sgt. Scott Skinner said an autopsy was performed Thursday, but more tests will be done in order to determine the cause of death. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results.
Police said they observed no obvious signs of trauma to the body. It’s unknown whether the death was accidental.
A cyclist was traveling along the bike path when he spotted the body. He said he wasn’t sure what it was until he took a closer look and flagged two teenagers nearby, who said it was a body floating facedown in the creek. The Merced County Sheriff’s Department dive team was called to the scene and the body was removed from the water about 6:30 p.m. Detectives canvassed the area.
Police are asking anyone with information to call Detective Chris Russell at (209) 385-6912. Tips are kept confidential and callers can remain anonymous. Tips can also be sent via anonymous text message to TIP411 using the word “Comvip.”
