Juan De La Torre was travelin southbound in a 1995 Jeep at an unknown rate of speed in the slow lane at 6:16 p.m., when for unknown reasons his vehicle veered to the right and onto the right shoulder. The Jeep struck a metal pole, went down a dirt embankment and overturned, coming to a rest on its wheels.
CHP reported that De La Torre was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the Jeep. Because of the crash, the dry vegetation adjactent to the Jeep caught fire, but was put out.
De La Torre was flown to a Modesto hospital for treatment. Officers do not believe DUI was a factor in the crash.
