The Merced County Courthouse Museum will host an exhibit about Mexican American history in October and officials are asking residents to submit artifacts, stories and other historical items.

Officials are in the process of collecting, researching and documenting the history of the Mexican American community in Merced in preparation for an exhibit on October 16.

“From Spanish land grants to the Civil Rights Movement, the Mexican American community has a long and rich presence in Merced County,” according to a news release. “However, their life and contribution is not well-recorded.”

With the public’s help, the museum will be able to present a comprehensive history of this chapter of Merced County history. If you would like to share your stories and photos in the exhibit, please contact the museum office at (209) 723-2401.
