An Atwater resident suffered a gunshot wound over the weekend in an apparent drive-by shooting on Packers Street, the Atwater Police Department reported.
The victim, a 27-year-old man, was shot once in the thigh just before midnight Friday while standing outside his home in the 1300 block of Packers Street, Lt. Samuel Joseph said.
He was flown to an undisclosed regional hospital where he was expected to recover from his injury, police said.
Atwater police responded at 11:53 p.m. Friday to a report of shots fired from a vehicle.
Police described the vehicle as a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma pickup with a short bed and two doors. The vehicle was last seen driving north on Packers Street, police said.
Officers collected a shell casing and bullet fragment in the area believed to be connected to the attack. The items were taken for evidence, police said.
Joseph said the drive-by shooting does not appear gang-related, but said the motive for the attack remains unclear.
Descriptions of the shooter or occupants inside the vehicle were not available.
