Three teenagers shot during a drive-by attack late Wednesday in Winton are expected to recover, the Merced County Sheriff’s Department reported.
The teenagers were shot about 9:40 p.m. in the 6500 block of California Street near Santa Fe Drive, Deputy Delray Shelton said in a news release.
The victims, whose names were not released, were listed as a 15-year-old Atwater boy, a 15-year-old Winton boy and a 17-year-old girl from Modesto. All three were taken to a regional hospital for treatment.
“All injuries are superficial and the victims are expected to survive,” Shelton said in the statement.
Deputies said the circumstances surrounding the shooting and its motives are under investigation. Investigators described details in the case as “preliminary and limited.”
Detectives have not ruled out the possibility of a street-gang connection in the attack, Shelton said.
No suspect or vehicle descriptions were available Thursday.
