Merced police are looking for the public’s help to identify a man they believe stole money from two Merced residents by fraudulently renting them a house.
Police released a video from June they believe shows a man who advertised a house in the 800 block of Santa Fe Avenue on the website www.craigslist.org.
The man collected about $4,000 from two renters in May, police said, but did not have the authority to rent the home.
Police supplied the Merced Sun-Star with a video of the man they believe to be involved and are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying him. The video can be viewed at www.mercedsunstar.com under the header “Top Videos.”
Police said renters should always do research to ensure a landlord is legitimate, including making an inquiry with the Merced County assessor’s office.
