One man is in critical condition after being shot early Sunday morning at a residence in the 600 block of Cornell Court in north Merced, police said.

Lt. Matt Williams said details are preliminary and the investigation is ongoing. The victim has been identified as Matthew Galvan, 25.

The shooting was reported just before 2:30 a.m. at a house party, where some of the attendees were apparently gang members, Williams said. Words were exchanged between Galvan and someone else at the party, and shots were fired.

Police responded to the scene after receiving a shots fired call. Officers found Galvan on the ground, suffering from gunshot wounds. Williams said the victim was taken to a regional hospital, where he remains.

Police served a search warrant Sunday at a home in a different location and arrested two suspects, both of whom are juveniles. As of press time Sunday, Williams said detectives were questioning the juveniles and holding them for probation violations, though it was unknown whether they will face charges with regard to the shooting.
